Andrew Schwartz received his bachelor’s degree in Trombone Performance from DePaul University in Chicago, studying with Charlie Vernon, Mark Fisher, and Tom Matta. He appears on several DePaul University recordings, including “Live at the Jazz Showcase” with trumpeter Tom Harrell.
He received his M.M. in trombone from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he taught “Fundamentals of Music”, a course on music theory for non-music students.
After finishing at Mizzou, Andrew accepted a position as professor of trombone and euphonium at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Andrew also taught lessons for needful public school students under the direction of the Whitaker Foundation in St. Louis.
In 2004, he moved to Kansas City to begin doctoral study at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He can currently he heard within the UMKC Symphony Band, Trombone Choir, and in solo recitals. He can also be heard muttering about his doctoral thesis.
